Training Primary School Teachers to Address Social and Educational inequalities: Representations and Perspectives of University Teacher Educators
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study conducted in Fribourg in Switzerland, explores the representations and perspectives of university teacher educators involved in the training program for future primary school teachers with regard to social inequalities. Based on a questionnaire combining closed and open-ended questions, the study collected the representations of 42 participants concerning social inequalities, their role in addressing them, and their perceptions of initial teacher education. The results highlight varied conceptions of social inequalities and of the role of teacher educators, ranging from awareness-raising to the transformation of practices. Although these issues are present in the curriculum, their integration remains fragmentary. These findings underline the need to strengthen teacher education around a shared understanding of social inequalities, grounded in critical reflexivity on professional practices.
